What Is a Thread Lift?

A thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure that uses dissolvable sutures to lift and rejuvenate sagging skin. Unlike traditional facelift surgery, which involves scalpels and longer recovery times, a thread lift offers a quicker alternative. The procedure typically takes under 45 minutes and allows you to return to your daily activities promptly.

There are several types of threads used in thread lifts, each with unique properties and uses. Polydioxanone (PDO) being the most popular . There are three main types of PDO threads used: mono, cog, and screw threads.

How Does It Work?

Dissolvable sutures are strategically inserted beneath the surface of your skin. These threads stimulate collagen production by triggering fibroblasts, the cells responsible for maintaining skin structure and elasticity. This promotion of collagen production results in increased skin firmness over time.

Mono Threads are smooth sutures without barbs. They provide a small amount of lift through tightening of the skin. Cog threads provide a more significant lift, especially in areas with more pronounced sagging as they have barbs which hook onto the skin to lift the sagging tissue. Screw threads are intertwined around a needle and they provide volume restoration to sunken areas of the skin.

Benefits

Thread lifts offers several benefits as a minimally invasive alternative to traditional facelift surgery, such as:

Rejuvenation and Tightening. The threads stimulate collagen production, which contribute to firmer and more elastic tissue, reducing the appearance of sagging.

Quick procedure: Often dubbed a “lunchtime facelift” because it’s quick, compared to facelift surgery.

Instant lift. The physical lifting effect, combined with collagen stimulation, leads to sustained improvements in skin elasticity and firmness.

No Incisions required like you do for surgical facelifts.

Minimal Downtime unlike surgical facelifts, thread lifts involve little downtime. Most people can return to work the same day after the procedure.

Lower risk of complications compared to facelift surgeries.

Subtle and Natural-Looking results.

A thread lift treatment is an excellent standalone treatment or can be combined with other aesthetic procedures like dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle and Profhilo

What areas can it treat

A thread lift treatment can target several areas, including:

  • Eyebrows

  • Nose

  • Under-eye area

  • Cheeks

  • Nasolabial folds (smile lines from side of the nose to the mouth corners)

  • Jowls and jawline

It’s a versatile procedure that provides subtle, natural-looking results without the need for extensive surgery.

FAQs

  • A comprehensive consultation is conducted prior to the thread lift treatment to ensure your suitability and align expectations with the desired results.

During the procedure, small threads are inserted under the skin. The duration of the treatment varies from 30- 45 minutes depending on the area/s treated.

  • Most people experience minimal discomfort during the procedure, similar to a slight pinch or stinging sensation. We typically use local anaesthetic to ensure optimal patient comfort.

  • There is minimal downtime associated with the procedure for most, allowing patients to resume their daily activities immediately afterward. Some patients may experience mild swelling and bruising, but these side effects usually subside within a few days.

Thread lifts offer a lower risk of complications compared to facelift surgery. Their potential side effects include tenderness, bruising, and dimpling (which usually resolves within 1-5 days). Rare complications include allergic reactions, infections, and thread snapping. Remember that while these risks exist, thread lifts are generally considered low-risk procedures, and their quick recovery makes them an attractive option for those seeking subtle yet noticeable improvements without surgery.

  • Following the thread lift procedure, you will notice immediate subtle lifting results, which will continue to progressively improve over the following months due to the ongoing enhancement of the skin through collagen stimulation as the threads dissolve resulting in longer lasting formless and lift. The results last from nine to twenty four months.

  • The ideal candidate for a thread lift is someone who:

    - Has mild to moderate sagging of facial skin

    - Is in their 30s to 60s.
